Free Shuttle Service to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville
Mayo Clinic Florida campus, where Gabriel House is located, is a smoke-free campus. Likewise, smoking is not permitted in Gabriel House of Care or anywhere on the grounds. We do not allow pets, alcohol, or firearms.
Accommodations
We allow one to two caregivers and one patient per room. Each room has two queen-sized beds and a private handicapped-accessible bathroom. There are no telephones or TVs in the guest rooms.
Cost
We have a nightly room contribution of $55 for the first night and $40 per night thereafter. Guests may pay by cash, check, or credit card and must notify staff of any change in the duration of treatment as soon as possible.
Transportation
Mayo Clinic Florida provides a shuttle service to and from Gabriel House and the clinic. The shuttle runs throughout the day and drops off and picks up guests at the main entrance of the Davis Building and the Mayo hospital building. Additional information about the shuttle service and other transportation options is provided to guests at check-in.
Meals
Guests enjoy preparing their own meals in the fully-equipped kitchen and dining in our spacious dining room or screened-in patio. Each guest room is assigned its own cabinet and refrigerator/freezer space for food items. Cooking equipment and utensils, as well as coffee and tea, are provided free of charge. Community groups and organizations also prepare meals for our guests through our Chef’s Night In program every Monday and Wednesday night.
Check-In
Guests can check-in between 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Guests may check-in no earlier than one day prior to treatment and will be allowed to stay one day following the completion of their treatment in accordance with physician orders.
During check-in, guests will complete the registration paperwork, be shown a brief presentation, and given a tour of Gabriel House of Care. All guests and caregivers will need a valid driver’s license or other photo ID to complete the check-in process.
Household Items & Laundry
Linens will be provided upon arrival and guests are responsible for laundering linens during their stay. Coin-operated laundry facilities are located on both floors for your use and convenience. There are three guest laundry facilities in the house. Guests are also responsible for cleaning their bedroom and bathroom during their stay. Cleaning supplies are provided in each room.

Welcome to your sanctuary for wellness. These integrative therapy programs and classes are designed to help patients and caregivers reduce stress, improve physical well-being, gain emotional support, and slowly acclimate back into daily life. All classes are tailored to meet our guests' unique health needs.
Nutritional Cooking Class
These classes are taught by registered and licensed dietitians from Mayo Clinic, a hands-on class full of healthy recipes for patients with compromised immune systems.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a meditative exercise designed to increase strength and flexibility, decrease joint pain and stress, reduce blood pressure, and increase one’s sense of well-being. It can be done seated or standing and no prior experience or equipment is necessary.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Taught by a licensed psychotherapist Ph.D. This class incorporates the medical model of utilizing meditation, relaxation, and breathing.
Classes are offered weekly.
Art Therapy
Unwind and express your creativity in our relaxing art therapy class. All supplies are provided at no cost, and all skill levels are welcome.
Chef’s Night In
We are back to our dinner groups being able to cook and serve in the house. All volunteers must be wearing a mask while serving.

Caregiver Support Groups
Gabriel House of Care offers caregivers support and the opportunity to connect with others who understand the emotional challenges of the caregiving journey.
Guest Requirements
Gabriel House serves transplant patients, oncology patients, and their caregivers only.
We allow one to two caregivers and one patient per room. Every room has two, queen-sized beds and an attached private, handicapped-accessible bathroom.
Guests may be admitted no earlier than one day prior to treatment and will be allowed to stay one day following the completion of their treatment in accordance with physician orders.
No motorized vehicles are allowed in the house.
Guests must notify staff of any change in the duration of treatment as soon as possible.
Extended stays are not guaranteed.
All guests and caregivers will need a valid driver’s license or other photo ID to complete the check-in process.
Guests and caregivers must be 18 years of age or older.
All guests must reside outside a 40-mile radius of Gabriel House.
For the safety and well-being of all our guests, all guests are required to have a caregiver stay with them for their entire length of stay.
All reservations are placed on our waitlist; you will be contacted closer to or on your requested date if a room becomes available.

Check-in hours for all guests are between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. daily.
Ensure that food in the refrigerator is labeled correctly and stored in appropriate space, that space is clean and free of spoiled or molding food items.
Ensure that GHOC Guest Services is aware of any date of stay changes. (GHOC cannot guarantee that changes in dates will be accommodated).
In the case of a medical emergency, the caregiver should call 911 (give your room number/location), then call the front desk so that a staff member can open the door and show them your location.
If there is only one caregiver and he/she is unable to attend to the patient for any reason, he/she must provide a substitute caregiver to take his/her place. The substitute caregiver must sign the "Agreement for Caregivers" before the current caregiver leaves. Both caregivers must be present to sign all forms. Caregivers must be able to assist the guest in an emergency and not require assistance themselves.
Be in attendance on a 24-hour basis and provide personal care as needed and prescribed. This includes ensuring medication is taken properly.
Caregivers cannot leave the patient for more than 2 hours.
Assist with his/her transportation needs.
Assist with meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and clean up.
Assist with his/her laundry and housekeeping needs. Communicate well with the patient to let him/her know at any time, during this stay, if his/her needs are not being met.
Help with keeping the TV rooms and common areas tidy.
Help keep the kitchen clean by taking out the trash, loading and unloading the dishwashers, cleaning countertops, and clean up the area used in the dining room.
Caregiver Responsibilities
All caregivers must sign an "Agreement for Caregivers" form. This agreement is to ensure that each caregiver understands their duties and responsibilities to their Guest (patient) and Gabriel House of Care (GHOC) during their entire stay at GHOC.
