Caregiver Responsibilities

All caregivers must sign an "Agreement for Caregivers" form. This agreement is to ensure that each caregiver understands their duties and responsibilities to their Guest (patient) and Gabriel House of Care (GHOC) during their entire stay at GHOC.
The duties and responsibilities as caregiver consist of but are not limited to the following:

  • Be in attendance on a 24 hour basis and provide personal care as needed and prescribed. This includes ensuring medication is taken properly. Caregivers cannot leave the patient for more than 2 hours (once the patient is in a stable medical condition).
  • Assist with his/her transportation needs.
  • Assist with meal planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and clean up.
  • Assist with his/her laundry and housekeeping needs.
  • Communicate well with the patient to let him/her know at any time, during this stay, if his/her needs are not being met.
  • Help with keeping the TV rooms and common areas tidy.
  • Help keep the kitchen clean by taking out the trash, loading and unloading the dishwashers, cleaning counter tops, and clean up the area used in the dining room.
  • Ensure that food in the refrigerator is labeled correctly and stored in appropriate space, that space is clean and free of spoiled or molding food items.
  • Ensure that GHOC Guest Services is aware of any date of stay changes. (GHoC cannot guarantee that changes in dates will be accommodated).
  • In the case of a medical emergency the caregiver should call 911 (give your room number/location), then call the front desk so that a staff member can open the door and show them your location.
  • If there is only one caregiver and he/she is unable to attend to the patient for any reason, he/she must provide a substitute caregiver to take his/her place. The substitute caregiver must sign the "Agreement for Caregivers" before the current caregiver leaves. Both caregivers must be present at signing. Caregivers must be able to assist the guest in any emergency and not require assistance themselves.
